In a major boost for international connectivity from Gujarat, Direct flights Ahmedabad-Colombo are set to begin operations from May 15, offering travelers a much faster and more convenient way to reach Sri Lanka. The service will be operated by FitsAir, a private airline from Sri Lanka, which will run non-stop flights between Ahmedabad and Colombo three times a week.

The new air route will significantly reduce travel time for passengers flying from Gujarat to Sri Lanka. Previously, travelers had to rely on connecting flights via major Indian cities such as Mumbai or Chennai, making the journey much longer and less convenient. With the launch of Direct flights Ahmedabad-Colombo, passengers will now be able to complete the journey in approximately three hours, compared to the earlier 9–10 hours required with connecting flights.

The introduction of this direct international route is expected to strengthen tourism, business travel, and cultural exchange between India and Sri Lanka.

The launch of Direct flights Ahmedabad-Colombo will greatly simplify travel for people in Gujarat who wish to visit Sri Lanka for tourism, religious visits, or business purposes.

Travel Time Reduced Dramatically

Until now, passengers from Gujarat traveling to Colombo had limited options. Most journeys required connecting flights through other Indian cities, increasing travel duration and adding additional layover time.

With the new non-stop service, the situation will change significantly.

Tourism Between Gujarat and Sri Lanka Expected to Grow

According to reports cited by PTI, Nalaka Amaratunga, CEO of the destination management sector at Walkers Tours, stated that the new direct air link will significantly boost tourism between the two regions.

He explained that Direct flights Ahmedabad-Colombo will make Sri Lanka far more accessible to travelers from Gujarat. Currently, an estimated 25,000 to 30,000 tourists from Gujarat visit Sri Lanka every year. With the launch of this new service, that number is expected to increase substantially over the coming years.

Industry experts believe that the number of visitors could potentially double in the next few years, as easier air connectivity often leads to higher tourist demand.

According to Nayana Mawilmada, President of Leisure and Property at John Keells Holdings, the new route specifically targets the rapidly growing outbound travel market from Gujarat.
