A major Blood plasma scam has been uncovered in Ahmedabad after police dismantled an alleged racket accused of tampering with blood plasma used in the production of life-saving medicines. Investigators claim the accused diluted genuine plasma with saline solution before supplying the altered plasma bags to pharmaceutical companies, potentially putting vulnerable patients, including those undergoing cancer treatment, at serious risk.
The operation was uncovered in Changodar, an industrial area on the outskirts of Ahmedabad, where the Rural Special Operations Group (SOG) arrested four individuals believed to have played key roles in the illegal network. Authorities say the group had been operating for nearly six months before being caught.
Police Seize Plasma Bags and Equipment During Raid
According to investigators, the police raid led to the seizure of more than 1,100 blood plasma units along with equipment allegedly used in the adulteration process. Officials recovered a deep freezer, chemical containers, a sealing machine, dozens of empty plasma bags and a pickup vehicle. The total value of the seized material is estimated at around ₹12 lakh.
The investigation suggests that authentic plasma was first extracted from sealed blood plasma bags. The missing volume was then allegedly replaced with saline solution before the bags were resealed and prepared for distribution. Police believe the altered products were later sold to pharmaceutical companies at significantly lower prices than genuine plasma.
Authorities are continuing to examine whether any of the adulterated plasma entered the pharmaceutical supply chain and whether additional people or businesses may have been involved.
Four Individuals Taken Into Custody
Police have identified four accused in connection with the alleged racket. Investigators believe the operation was led by Dinesh Chaudhary, who is suspected of coordinating the scheme with the help of three associates.
Officials say Chaudhary had previously worked as a blood plasma collection executive for pharmaceutical companies. His prior experience allegedly gave him detailed knowledge of plasma handling, storage and transportation procedures, which investigators believe was later exploited to carry out the fraud.
The remaining accused are alleged to have assisted in transporting plasma bags and replacing genuine units with adulterated ones before delivery to companies.
Alleged Mastermind Used Industry Experience
According to the preliminary investigation, Chaudhary’s professional background allowed him to understand how plasma collection and logistics worked. Police allege that he used this knowledge to establish the illegal operation in the Changodar area.
Investigators claim the group rented a separate house where the plasma bags were allegedly opened, diluted with saline solution and resealed using specialized equipment. The altered bags were then supplied based on demand, allowing the accused to earn profits by selling them at nearly half the market price.
Officials believe the scheme relied on careful coordination between those handling plasma collection and those responsible for transportation.
How the Alleged Supply Chain Worked
Police say the racket functioned through an order-based system. Investigators allege that drivers responsible for collecting plasma from districts in Maharashtra informed the alleged mastermind before transporting the material.
Once genuine plasma bags reached the rented premises, authorities claim some of the plasma was removed and replaced with saline solution. The bags were then resealed and returned to the transporters, who allegedly delivered them in place of the original products.
The investigation remains ongoing, and officials are working to determine the full extent of the operation, including whether additional pharmaceutical companies or intermediaries were unknowingly affected.
