Oscars 100th Anniversary: The organizers of the world’s most prestigious film awards have officially confirmed the schedule for the next two ceremonies, including the landmark Oscars 100th Anniversary celebration. The Academy Awards, presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, will mark a historic milestone as the awards approach a century of honoring excellence in cinema.
According to the official announcement, the 99th Academy Awards will take place on Sunday, March 14, 2027, while the historic 100th Academy Awards, celebrating the Oscars 100th Anniversary, will be held on Sunday, March 5, 2028. For audiences in India, both ceremonies will begin at 4:30 AM IST, which corresponds to 7:00 PM ET / 4:00 PM PT in the United States.
A Historic Venue Change After Two Decades
For the next two years, the Oscars will continue to be hosted at the iconic Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. This venue has served as the official home of the Academy Awards since 2002, hosting some of the most memorable moments in Hollywood history.
However, the upcoming ceremonies will mark the final years at the Dolby Theatre before the event moves to a new location. Beginning after the 100th ceremony, the awards will shift to the Peacock Theater, located in the L.A. Live entertainment complex in downtown Los Angeles.
The Peacock Theater is already known for hosting major television events, including the Primetime Emmy Awards since 2008. The move is expected to modernize the Oscars’ presentation and provide a refreshed experience for both attendees and viewers around the world.
New Streaming Strategy for Future Oscars
In addition to the venue change, the Academy is also preparing a major shift in its broadcast strategy. Reports indicate that the Academy has signed a 10-year agreement with entertainment company AEG, finalized on March 26, 2026, which covers venue arrangements and production elements for upcoming ceremonies.
Perhaps the biggest change will come in how the awards are broadcast. Future ceremonies will be available through the video platform YouTube, marking a major shift away from traditional television distribution.
The 101st Academy Awards, expected to take place in early March 2029, will be streamed on YouTube. This transition will effectively bring an end to the Oscars’ long-standing broadcast partnership with ABC, which has televised the ceremony since 1976.

Ending a 53-Year Broadcast Era
The Academy’s partnership with ABC lasted more than five decades, making it one of the longest relationships between a television network and a major entertainment event. The shift toward streaming reflects changing viewer habits, with more audiences now choosing digital platforms over traditional television.
With YouTube hosting the ceremony, the Oscars are expected to reach a broader global audience. The Academy has indicated that the event will be accessible through free live streaming, making it easier for fans worldwide to watch the awards in real time.
