Postmortem Conducted at KGMU
Following the incident, Prateek Yadav’s body was sent to King George’s Medical University (KGMU) in Lucknow for postmortem examination. Authorities completed the procedure later in the day, though the final medical findings are still awaited.
Family members and close associates gathered in Lucknow as preparations for the final rites began. Reports suggest the funeral will take place after the arrival of his wife, Aparna Yadav, who rushed back to Lucknow after learning about the tragedy.
Aparna Yadav had reportedly travelled to Assam to attend a swearing-in ceremony linked to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Her brother Aman Singh Bisht was also present during the postmortem process at KGMU.
Health Concerns Reportedly Began Earlier
Sources familiar with the matter said that Prateek Yadav had faced serious health complications only weeks earlier. On April 30, he was reportedly admitted to a private hospital in Lucknow in critical condition. After receiving treatment for a few days, his condition improved slightly.
However, reports indicate that he later returned home without formally taking discharge from the hospital. Doctors treating him had allegedly identified pulmonary embolism as a major concern. The condition occurs when blood clots block arteries in the lungs, restricting blood circulation and potentially becoming life-threatening if not treated in time.
While these medical details have surfaced through sources, officials are yet to release a definitive statement linking the condition to the cause of death. The final postmortem report is expected to provide greater clarity.
A Private Life Away From Active Politics
Despite belonging to one of Uttar Pradesh’s most influential political families, Prateek Yadav largely stayed away from electoral politics. Unlike his elder half-brother Akhilesh Yadav, Prateek focused on business ventures and personal interests.
He studied at the University of Leeds in the United Kingdom and later entered the real estate and fitness sectors. He was known in Lucknow’s business community as the owner of a gym chain called “The Fitness Planet.”
Prateek was the son of late Samajwadi Party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav and his second wife Sadhana Gupta. Before marrying Mulayam Singh Yadav in 2003, Sadhana Gupta had previously been married to Chandraprakash Gupta. Prateek was born in 1987, and Mulayam Singh later publicly acknowledged him as his son after marrying Sadhana.

Personal Life Drew Public Attention Earlier This Year
Prateek Yadav and Aparna Yadav had married around 14 years ago in what was described as a love marriage. The couple has two daughters together. Aparna later entered public life and politics, eventually joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Earlier this year, Prateek briefly drew attention on social media after publicly announcing separation from Aparna Yadav. In January, he had shared a post alleging personal differences in the marriage. However, within days, the couple appeared to reconcile. Prateek later posted a photograph with Aparna on Instagram along with the caption, “All is Good.”
The news of Prateek Yadav Nidhan has prompted condolences from political leaders, supporters, and well-wishers across party lines. Many have expressed grief over the untimely death of someone who, despite his political lineage, preferred to maintain a relatively low public profile.
As the family mourns the loss, attention now remains focused on the official medical findings that may explain the sudden and tragic death of the 38-year-old entrepreneur.
