Police Say 14-Year-Old Was Strangled Before Her Body Was Transported in a Suitcase and Set on Fire in Hoshiarpur
A shocking development has emerged in the Nawanshahr Murder case after Punjab Police revealed that a 14-year-old girl’s death was allegedly planned and carried out by her mother’s live-in partner. Investigators say the teenager was strangled inside a rented home before her body was packed into a suitcase and taken to a forest area in Hoshiarpur, where it was burned in an apparent attempt to destroy evidence.
The case came to light after a severely charred body was discovered inside a suitcase in the Khuralgarh forest area of Hoshiarpur. The disturbing discovery triggered a major police investigation that eventually led officers to a suspect closely connected to the victim’s family.
Burned Body Found in Forest
According to investigators, local authorities received information on June 5 about a suspicious suitcase found in a forested area near Khuralgarh. When police arrived at the scene, they found the remains of a young girl inside. The body had been burned so extensively that identification became a challenge, prompting a detailed forensic and criminal investigation.
As officers worked to determine the victim’s identity, a missing person complaint filed by the girl’s mother helped direct the investigation. The mother had earlier reported that her daughter, a Class 10 student, had gone missing and suspected that someone may have lured her away.
Investigation Turns Toward Family Circle
During the early stages of the probe, police questioned several individuals connected to the teenager. However, surveillance footage and witness statements gradually shifted attention toward the mother’s live-in partner.
Police said the accused, a 23-year-old man from a village in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar district, had been living with the victim’s mother for approximately two years. The woman, who is divorced, reportedly began the relationship after the man returned from overseas employment.
The couple had been residing together in a rented accommodation in Nawanshahr along with the teenage girl.

Investigators believe the crime was committed on May 29. According to the police version, the accused first ensured that his live-in partner was away from the residence by putting her on a bus. He then returned to the rented room where the teenager was present.
Police allege that the man had already planned the crime. Once alone with the girl, he allegedly strangled her to death.
After the killing, investigators say he placed the body inside a large suitcase and waited until dark. The suitcase was then reportedly transported on a motorcycle to the Khuralgarh forest area in Hoshiarpur.
There, according to police, the accused poured fuel over the suitcase and the body before setting them on fire in an attempt to eliminate evidence and make identification difficult.
CCTV Footage Becomes Key Evidence
A breakthrough in the Nawanshahr Murder investigation came through the examination of CCTV footage collected from the area around the rented accommodation.
Police officials said the recordings showed the teenager traveling on a motorcycle with the accused earlier in the day. Additional footage allegedly captured the suspect entering the residence and later leaving with a large suitcase.
