OFSS Bihar: The admission process for Class 11 in Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Residential Schools across Bihar has officially begun for the academic session 2026–28. The initiative, run by the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Welfare Department, aims to provide quality education along with residential facilities to students from disadvantaged communities. As part of the broader educational initiatives connected with ofss bihar, eligible students can now apply for admission until April 27.
According to the department, a total of 46 Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Residential Schools in the state are participating in this admission cycle. These schools are designed to provide not only academic education but also specialized coaching for competitive examinations such as JEE (Joint Entrance Examination) and NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test). This means students studying in these institutions will be able to prepare for engineering and medical entrance exams without any additional coaching expenses.
Free Residential Education and Coaching Facilities
Students selected through this process will receive completely free admission along with full residential facilities. This includes accommodation, meals, uniforms, and other essential services. The aim is to ensure that students from Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe communities have access to a supportive academic environment without financial barriers.
In addition to regular classroom teaching, the schools will provide special coaching programs for JEE and NEET within the campus. These programs are designed to help students compete for admission to top engineering and medical colleges in India. By integrating competitive exam preparation with school education, the government hopes to strengthen higher education opportunities for students from marginalized backgrounds.
Application Process and Eligibility
The admission process for these residential schools is based on Class 10 examination marks. Students who have recently completed their 10th grade can apply for admission to Class 11 under the ofss bihar system.
Applicants have two options to submit their applications:
- Offline Application: Students can visit their district’s District Welfare Office and submit the application form through the prescribed format.
- Online Application: Students can also apply online through the department’s official website.
The schools offer three academic streams for Class 11:
- Science
- Commerce
- Arts
Students can choose their preferred stream based on their interests and academic performance. The final allotment of schools will be done according to the preferences selected by the applicants during the application process.
Admission Schedule and Selection Criteria
After the application deadline on April 27, the department will begin processing the applications. The admission process is scheduled to take place between May 15 and May 25.
Selection will strictly depend on the marks obtained in the Class 10 board examination. If any selected candidate fails to complete the admission process within the specified timeframe, the seat will be offered to the next candidate from the waiting list.

Students applying for admission must submit the following documents along with their application:

Scholarship Support for Overseas Education
In another significant announcement related to student welfare, the state government has also introduced financial assistance for students aspiring to study abroad. Under the Overseas Scholarship Scheme, students from Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe communities in Bihar who plan to pursue higher education overseas will receive financial support.
State SC/ST Welfare Minister Lakhendra Paswan stated that the government is working to ensure that students graduating from these residential schools can easily continue their higher education journey. To support infrastructure development, the minister has requested the central government to allocate ₹3.5 lakh to ₹4 lakh per student for hostel construction.
Additionally, he has proposed financial assistance under the Prime Minister Adarsh Gram Yojana for villages where Scheduled Caste populations exceed 40 percent or 500 residents. Under this proposal, each eligible village would receive ₹20 lakh to support development initiatives.
Expanding Educational Opportunities
The admissions under ofss bihar for Ambedkar Residential Schools represent a major step toward improving access to quality education for students from marginalized communities. By combining free residential schooling with competitive exam coaching and scholarship opportunities, the program aims to create a strong pathway for students to pursue higher education and professional careers in fields like engineering, medicine, and commerce.
Students interested in applying are encouraged to complete their applications before the April 27 deadline to secure a chance at admission for the upcoming academic session.
